30-something thinking

Turning 30 wasn't something I worried about leading up to it. It was on my mind, but I admit that the idea of getting older isn't one that I put energy into (and of course - 30 is not old. At all). However, what has been interesting about my three decades on this earth is what I have come to learn about myself - which only growing older has enabled me to do.

What's for breakfast?

Breakfast has always been my favourite meal of the day. Whether it be grabbing a piece of toast and Vegemite as I run out the door or catching up with friends over delicious brunches at our favourite local cafés.

Now I'm at home with a bub, I'm waking up each morning absolutely famished due to breastfeeding her. Not only does it create a fierce hunger but I feel the need to make sure that what I'm eating is nourishing so that my daughter is in turn nourished too.

But you don't need to be a new mum to give yourself a great start to the day so I've put together a few of my favourite brekkies perfect for these chilly mornings!

Choc-peanut porridge with strawberries and maple

Simply add a teaspoon of cacao and a tablespoon of peanut butter (the 100% nut variety please) to half a cup of quick oats before cooking them as per normal. Then mix in some almond milk until you get your desired consistency, top with strawberries and a drizzle of pure maple syrup for sweetness.

Warming, filling and delicious!

Toasted banana roll-up

This is an easy recipe to change according to your taste so get creative! It can also satisfy a sweet tooth for dessert too.

Spread some almond butter on mountain bread, add a banana and roll it up. Toast it in a sandwich press until the mountain bread is crispy and the banana is hot and gooey.

Serve with Greek yoghurt, a sprinkle of cinnamon and some crunchy granola.

Try it with Nutella and cream if you're after something more indulgent for dessert!

Green omelette (for two)

Whisk together 5 eggs with a dash of milk and a tablespoon of pesto. Pour into a non stick pan, throw over some baby spinach and grated cheese. Cook for a few minutes with the lid on before flipping it over. If you're nervous about turning your omelette into scrambled eggs just finish it off under the grill instead of flipping it.

And voila! The perfect omelette! Try it with bacon, tomatoes, etc and serve with avocado on toast.

For something different try it with sauerkraut like we have...delicious!!

There were 5 in the bed and the little one said...

So what's for brekkie at your place?

Ps - This post isn't sponsored, I'm just loving the shit out of my new jeans and it would be unfair for me not to tell you all! :)
