Food love - Acai Bowls

Acai and acai bowls are buzz words amongst the health and fitness industry at the moment because of its health and weight loss qualities - we're fans because its yummy! Acai is a berry derived from the acai palm found in South America and its a berry that packs a serious punch! They contain high amounts of antioxidants, vitamin C, iron, calcium, vitamin A and amino acids, according to www.acaiberryinaustralia.com

You can find acai in health food stores and its available in two forms, powdered and frozen bricks. The powder is fantastic for supplementing smoothies but today we've used the bricks to create delicious acai bowls! 1 packet of frozen acai contains 4 bricks with one acai bowl requiring 2 bricks - they retail for about $10 per packet.

Acai bowls are a thick smoothie topped with yummy favourites like granola, fruit and Greek yoghurt. What you top your acai bowl with is really up to you! You can try buckinis, bee pollen, cacao nibs, protein powder or just fruit, granola and Greek yoghurt like we have!

In a high-powered blender or food processor combine 2 acai bricks, half a frozen banana (throw your over-ripe bananas in the freezer for banana cake, smoothies and acai bowls) and approximately half a cup of milk. You can use any milk you like, I opt for almond milk but cows milk, coconut milk or even coconut water will work too. Add the milk gradually until you get the consistency you like, you may need to adjust the quantity.
