- DOUBLE CLEANSE: When washing your face to remove your makeup at night cleanse twice to make sure you remove every bit of makeup...so that's cleanse, remove with warm face washer, cleaner again and remove with warm face washer. Going to be at night with a clean face is essential because it's while you're sleeping that skin cells are regenerating. You really do get 'beauty sleep"! Be gentle though and make sure your cleanser isn't stripping your skin or drying it out because this can cause excess oil production and congestion.
- EXFOLIATE EVERY 3 DAYS: Sloughing off dead skin cells once a week just isn't enough so to keep your skin fresh and smooth exfoliate with a gentle face scrub every 3 days. Concentrate on your forehead, nose and chin (the T-zone) and go easy on your cheeks because we don't want broken capillaries. As always with exfoliating, avoid the eye area.
- FEED YOUR SKIN: Gone of the days of a simply cleanse, tone and moisturise routine. Now we know our skin wants more! Firstly, skip the toner! I used to use toner on a cotton pad to remove any makeup that my cleanser missed but if I'm double cleansing I know I can skip the toner and spend my skincare budget on a serum or oil to feed my skin instead. I swear by a 100% certified organic rosehip oil to combat dryness, reduce sun spots and to give my skin a dose of antioxidants. If you're worried about using an oil try a serum instead, your skin will soak it up! Both are best locked in with a moisturiser or facial cream (that suits your skin type.)
- PROTECT YOUR SKIN: There's no better way to protect your skin from harsh UVA and UVB rays than with a sunscreen! You're kidding yourself if you think you only need to wear sunscreen on sunny days! If its day time, there's UVA & UVB rays out to get you and AGE YOU! You can spend your pennies on the most expensive skincare out there but if you're not protecting your skin from the sun you're wasting your money. It doesn't matter how you chose to protect it, be it with a regular sunscreen, a tinted moisturiser with SPF, a BB or CC cream with SPF or with foundation with SPF...just pick at least one! While you're at it add some to the backs of your hands because our hands show our age before our face does.
- HYDRATE FROM THE INSIDE OUT: You've heard it before but I'm going to say it again! Drink plenty of water! There's varying opinions out there as to how much we need so my advise is to always have water with you. Keep a bottle on your desk at work to sip throughout the day, take a bottle in your bag when you go shopping, order water with your coffee...you get the idea! Your skin absolutely loves water, it keeps it plump, hydrated and glowing...if you're lacking water you'll get dark circles under your eyes and crêpey fine lines on your face, especially across your cheeks. So bottoms up!
