City to Country - Farmers Markets

There's something pretty special about buying food directly from the grower/ baker/ supplier. We know the story, we get to know the process of how food gets to us, we get to know the people. But as supermarkets continue to stock anything and everything, the more disconnected we become from our food and what we know about it.

It's a noticeable change since moving, relying on one local shop for everything. Supermarket shopping isn't always that inspiring (or fun or colourful or lively). Luckily, the phenomenon of the Farmers Market continues to grow and on a recent trip to Brisbane, our gracious hosts took us to the sweetest spot - the Nundah Farmers Market - and what a lovely little patch in a bustling metropolis! (thank you Megan!)

The welcome wagon at Nundah
 Beautiful breakfast options
 Piles of produce
 Fresh and free range
 Cauli and blooms
 Citrus delight
 So pretty
They look RADISHing

On the Yorke Peninsula, things are done a bit differently. For a start, there ain't no bustling metropolis. Much of the YP is prime farming land (have I said before I live in a wheat field?) but we recently discovered a Farmers Market (of sorts) in the nearby town of Curramulka. Instead of farmers, there are local home-growers. All baked goods are courtesy of the local ladies whipping up crowd pleasers like tea cake and scones (lovingly displayed on paper plates with plastic wrap). Beautiful breakfast is replaced with sizzling sausages for two bucks a pop, with local tomato chutney to take home. Plus a few crafts and second hand stuff for good measure.

Putting the vacuum to good use
 Local toms
 Tasty baked treats
 Bits and bobs
 'My tree is overgrown!'
 Straight from the tinny
 Plum preserves
I'll have a scarf with my root veg please

What I love most about it though? The charm of proud people selling their hard work, and a local community turning out to support it. Plus, I picked up a pre-loved curling wand for 50 cents. Winning!

Most councils will have information about markets coming up, how often and how to participate. Remember sometimes it's the little things that go a long way, and supporting local vendors helps a small venture grow into a business - I definitely have a lot of ideas brewing for Curramulka...

Do you have any local spots that you support?

Trend Report - Boho

I was reading recently on style.com that Boho is back. Seriously? Did it ever really go anywhere since it's birth in the 60s? As long as ladies attend summer festivals the world over, I'm fairly sure Boho will remain a strong trend for time to come. From lace midriffs and fringed kimonos, cut off denims and dreamy dresses... Simplest way to sneak boho into your staples? Add a wide-brimmed hat and some wicker sandals, or simple turquoise jewellery and a gorgeous floral shawl. No need to go over the top to feel the hippie spirit.

Today's warm weather had me dazed for a long summer just around the corner - hope you enjoy some sunny inspiration!

Peace

E x

5 tips to Spring Clean your Skin!

So we can all get a little slack with our skin care routine at times so here's 5 tips to help you shake things up and give your skin the Spring clean it deserves.
  1. DOUBLE CLEANSE: When washing your face to remove your makeup at night cleanse twice to make sure you remove every bit of makeup...so that's cleanse, remove with warm face washer, cleaner again and remove with warm face washer. Going to be at night with a clean face is essential because it's while you're sleeping that skin cells are regenerating. You really do get 'beauty sleep"! Be gentle though and make sure your cleanser isn't stripping your skin or drying it out because this can cause excess oil production and congestion.
  2. EXFOLIATE EVERY 3 DAYS: Sloughing off dead skin cells once a week just isn't enough so to keep your skin fresh and smooth exfoliate with a gentle face scrub every 3 days. Concentrate on your forehead, nose and chin (the T-zone) and go easy on your cheeks because we don't want broken capillaries. As always with exfoliating, avoid the eye area.
  3. FEED YOUR SKIN: Gone of the days of a simply cleanse, tone and moisturise routine. Now we know our skin wants more! Firstly, skip the toner! I used to use toner on a cotton pad to remove any makeup that my cleanser missed but if I'm double cleansing I know I can skip the toner and spend my skincare budget on a serum or oil to feed my skin instead. I swear by a 100% certified organic rosehip oil to combat dryness, reduce sun spots and to give my skin a dose of antioxidants. If you're worried about using an oil try a serum instead, your skin will soak it up! Both are best locked in with a moisturiser or facial cream (that suits your skin type.)
  4. PROTECT YOUR SKIN: There's no better way to protect your skin from harsh UVA and UVB rays than with a sunscreen! You're kidding yourself if you think you only need to wear sunscreen on sunny days! If its day time, there's UVA & UVB rays out to get you and AGE YOU! You can spend your pennies on the most expensive skincare out there but if you're not protecting your skin from the sun you're wasting your money. It doesn't matter how you chose to protect it, be it with a regular sunscreen, a tinted moisturiser with SPF, a BB or CC cream with SPF or with foundation with SPF...just pick at least one! While you're at it add some to the backs of your hands because our hands show our age before our face does.
  5. HYDRATE FROM THE INSIDE OUT: You've heard it before but I'm going to say it again! Drink plenty of water! There's varying opinions out there as to how much we need so my advise is to always have water with you. Keep a bottle on your desk at work to sip throughout the day, take a bottle in your bag when you go shopping, order water with your coffee...you get the idea! Your skin absolutely loves water, it keeps it plump, hydrated and glowing...if you're lacking water you'll get dark circles under your eyes and crêpey fine lines on your face, especially across your cheeks. So bottoms up!
Follow my tips and you really will see and feel the difference. To top things off, treat your skin to a hydrating or clarifying mask once a week.

Style Crush - Emma Stone

As a stylist I adore seeing women embrace their beauty by dressing in colours that suit them and that really make them look ALIVE! For women with warm-toned, strawberry blonde or red hair and fair skin, its absolutely key to introduce pops of colour and contrast to your clothing and makeup to avoid looking washed out.

The first image here of Emma Stone is absolutely striking because the blue frock contrasts beautifully with her copper hair and lips and really makes her blue eyes sparkle.

What do you think? Has Emma achieved style perfection? I think so!

These are a few of my favourite images of her...
